Flicker & Fade by Elizabeth Smith is a fun and easy cowl knit in the round with 2 different size options (short or long) and features 4 colors of Malabrigo Chunky yarn - each color blends into the next, creating a beautiful ombre affect, and the linen stitch pattern in this bulky-weight yarn looks great on either side - I actually prefer the inside fabric, but both look beautiful in this yarn!

There is something so inspiring about the mix of these colors together (list of colors I used is below). I immediately thought of the setting sun when I saw them together - and so the name of this cowl was inspired by a sunset-inspired song I was reminded of lately (U2’s Indian Summer Sky): “To lose along the way, The spark that set the flame, To flicker and to fade, On this, the longest day…”

Pattern Information:

Sizes: short (long)

Circumference: 26”/66 (53”/134.5 cm)

Gauge: 15 sts & 27 rnds = 4”/10 cm in pattern

Yarn: 4 colors of bulky-weight yarn, each approx 40 (84) yds - for a total of 160 (336) yds - shown in Chunky by Malabrigo (100% Merino; 100g = 100 yds), 1 skein for each color:
• Color A: Sunset #96
• Color B: Rhodesian #123
• Color C: Sealing Wax #102
• Color D: Geranio #44

note: you can make 2 short-versions with just 1 skein of each of the 4 colors.

Needles & Other Supplies:
• Short Version: US 13/9 mm 24”/60 cm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge.
• Long Version: US 13/9 mm 32”/80 cm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge.
• 1 stitch marker.
• Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
