The daughter of an interior designer and a real estate broker, owner Allison Isaacs learned to knit and needlepoint at an early age. After a successful career in healthcare, she began indulging her love for knitting by selling her patterns and handknits in local stores. She eventually gave into fate and picked up her needles full time, becoming the driving force behind the opening of ImagiKnit.
ImagiKnit opened on the corner of 18th and Sanchez in the Fall of 2002. Two years later, with yarn filling every nook and cranny, the store grew, taking over the storefront next door. ImagiKnit quickly became known for our amazing selection, satisfying the knit and crochet needs of Bay Area residents and beyond.
In the summer of 2021, Allison retired and sold the shop to her longtime store manager, Katelyn Randolph. Katelyn was born and raised in Connecticut and learned to knit in high school as a way to help her pay attention in class. She went to college in North Carolina and studied Business and Marketing, opening an Etsy shop to sell her knit and crocheted accessories. She moved to San Francisco in 2008 and on her very first day in the city, she walked into ImagiKnit and asked for a job, sharing with Allison that it was her dream to one day own a yarn store. For 8 years she stocked shelves, helped customers, taught classes and managed the growing team of ImagiKnitters. She launched ImagiKnit's e-commerce site in 2014 along with beloved e-mail newsletter.
Today, ImagiKnit is San Francisco's yarn destination. We welcome crafters from all corners of the world into this warm and wonderful community. In 2024 we embarked on yet another exciting adventure and announced our expansion to the East Bay! ImagiKnit's second location is in the Elmwood area of Berkeley at 2921 College Avenue, the former home of Sweet Dreams Toy Store.
