Milk Thistle by Beatrice Mase is a textured kite-shaped shawl
with a unique flower design.

This shawl project will stretch your knitting skills and create a beautiful and unique piece of wearable art!

The shawl has been designed so that each shade of Cumbria Fingering has a different stitch pattern; garter and stockinette stitch in Scafell
Pike, herringbone stitch in Fair Hill and a stunning flower stitch in Blackbeck.

MATERIALS
4 skeins Cumbria Fingering, Colors A & C / 1 skein.. Color B / 2 skeins (shown in Fair Hill (A) – 1 hank, Scafell Pike (B) – 2 hanks, and Blackbeck (C) – 1 hank.)

 

TENSION/GAUGE:
26 sts and 52 rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over st st before blocking using 3mm (US 2.5) needles for garter stitch.
30 sts and 22 rows to 10 cm (4 in) measured over st st before blocking using 6.5mm (US 10.5) needles for herringbone stitch.

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS REQUIRED:

  • 3mm (US 2.5) 80 cm (32 in) circular needle (or size to obtain gauge)
  • 6.5mm (US 10.5) 80 cm (32 in) circular needle (or size to obtain gauge)
  • 3 yarn bobbins
  • 5 markers
  • Crochet hook (optional)
