Knitting Around, updated. Elizabeth Zimmermann's (EZ) 4th book includes chapters on Socks, Mittens, Seamless Fair Isle Yokes (with Henley style option), Norwegian-style sweaters, as well as garments with innovative construction such as the Moebius scarf and vest, the Very Warm Hat, the Bog jacket (for adults or babies), Dickeys, Pi Are Square Shawl, and an Aran Coat. With the added The Elizabeth Zimmermann Coat pattern, a flattering A-line design. Knitting Around is a special book as Elizabeth included Digressions sections after each chapter. Together, they form an autobiographical account of Elizabeth's childhood in England, learning to knit, art school and travel throughout Europe during the late 1920s and early 1930s, and an eventual immigration to the United States prior to WWII, a fascinating read.

When EZ, Meg Swansen, and Chris Swansen first produced this book, they had no desktop publishing and full-color was not a practical option. In addition to full-color throughout, improvements include: better charts, more garments, more sizing, editors' comments and clarifications within the text, edited instructions, and clearer organization. Plus, Meg has added notes to preface each chapter. Also, we improved the quality of the archival images, plus added new photographs, drawings, and paintings throughout, as well as expanding the gallery of Elizabeth Zimmermann's art. Mindful of the original concept and text of Elizabeth's book, our approach to the project has been to add value and interest, while preserving the archival aspects.
