Bamboo by Yumiko Alexander has vertical stripes created by alternating stockinette stitch and reverse stockinette stitch for color interest and texture.

You only need to know knit, purl and slip stitches to make this top. No shaping is worked as the stitch pattern automatically shapes the neckline. 

This pattern gives you a choice of chest circumference and finished length. The photos show one top in the regular fit with a longer length and another top in an oversized fit with a shorter length. As you can see, different combinations of circumference and length give totally different looks.
