The FURAWA Bonnet by Michiko Arai is worked from the top down. After knitting a square for the crown of the head, stitches are picked up around three edges of the square and the flower eyelet pattern begins as you knit the body of the bonnet. Decreases are knit at the base of the hood for a better fit around the jaw/chin. Finally, stitches are picked up around the base and the face edge, and an i-cord is knit all the way around these edges for a finished look/ties to secure the bonnet.
