Yarn Review: Steamer Trunk Yarn Review

March 08, 2015

A yarn just hit the shelves and it has everyone excited. Check out Steamer Trunk!

Mrs. Crosby is a new yarn line with the tag line “Mrs. Crosby Loves to Play” – how fun is that?  Steamer Trunk is a worsted weight 100% superwash merino that feels so spongy good.  We love it!  And oh, the colors!

There are thirty-one rich hand-dyed multi and semi-solid colorways with the best names (e.g. Midnight Aubergine, Monkey Orchid, Vintage Port). Steamer Trunk would be perfect for just about any project that calls for a worsted weight yarn.

Try a fun hat such as Raspberry Beanie for a short term immediate gratification project then indulge into a larger project such as a sweater or a blanket. To quote Mrs. Crosby herself, “A picture is worth a thousand words. A handmade garment, priceless”.

Yarn Review: Shibui Maai

November 12, 2014

We have a new yarn just in from ShiBui and it is destined to be a store favorite – Maai

Maai (mah-ah-ee) is Japanese for interval, break or pause.  Maai is a DK weight luxurious blend of 70% baby alpaca and 30% merino with a chainette construction that creates a super soft, light and springy fabric with great stitch definition.  Maai is available in fourteen beautiful colors.  The lightness from the chainette construction and the softness and warmth from the alpaca make this the ideal yarn to use for next to skin garments and accessories that would be perfect for our San Francisco fall and winter weather.   I couldn’t help myself - I’ve already cast on for an Itaca shawl from Stephen West's 4th book, Made for Movement

Snuggle up with Maai this holiday season and make something truly special for you or a loved one!

Yarn Review: Zooey

July 05, 2014

Diane is no stranger to the wonders of linen blends.  Today she spotlights a new linen/cotton yarn from Juniper Moon Farm called Zooey.

Zooey is a 60% linen, 40% cotton DK weight blend with a slight thick and thin texture.  The quintessential summer yarn, Zooey is machine washable (yay!) and softens up beautifully with washing.
