Morgan Hale is the San Francisco designer of the unique Shuttle and Skein Pins that we absolutely adore.
We had an opportunity to ask Morgan some questions.
1. How did you become involved in designing and making jewelry?
I only recently started designing enamel pins. Pins are an affordable way to show off things you love and I wanted to create a pin that illustrated my love of weaving. I had a feeling there would be other weavers out there that would enjoy it too. Designing the shuttle pin was the start of this new venture. I also thought it would be nice to have a pin that a knitter, crocheter or an all around fiber boss would enjoy too, and that's where the skein pin came in.
2. Are there specific techniques that you use?
All of the pins start as a sketch and then I use Illustrator to refine them and decide on colors. The final images I send to Night Owls Print Shop and they produce the pins.
3. Where do you find your inspiration for your designs?
The inspiration for these pins comes from my weaving tools and some of my favorite yarns.
4. Are you involved in other fiber-related arts?
I'm mainly a weaver, I also do some dyeing, sewing and knitting occasionally. I love weaving on my big floor loom though, it usually keeps me pretty busy.
