Free Pattern Friday: On the Beach
With Memorial Day just around the corner, we can't help but daydream about the months ahead. We're dreaming of trips to the beach, vacations abroad or just some lazy days sipping coffee on the front porch.
Wherever you find yourself this summer, you'll want the perfect sweater (and project!) by your side. Isabell Kraemer's on the beach sweater is just the thing. Slouchy and oversized with bold nautical stripes, you can take it from sandy shores to backyard barbeques with ease.
Using sportweight yarn knit loosely on size 7 and 8 needles, you'll be looking for a fabric that drapes and breathes well in warm weather. As serious linen lovers, the staff is partial to Euroflax's wet spun linen. The colors are fabulous to stripe and we just adore the texture. There is even a hand dyed version available as well!
Sizes available are XS (S, M, L, XL) with yardage requirements 1075 (1210, 1330, 1430, 1540) respectively. Since the stripes are easily customized, you can figure out yardage requirements per color depending on your desired color balance.
Staying in SF this summer and want a sweater to help beat the chill? Instead of linen, you can opt for a warmer fiber like alpaca or wool. We love the yardage of Heather Prime Alpaca (you might only need one skein per color!) and the colors of Tosh Sport (a hand dyed superwash merino wool) would pair beautifully together. Heather Prime Alpaca will have a LOT of drape, so consider ending your sweater body and sleeves early in anticipation of it growing in length over time.
