Forest Weave Knit-a-Long: Week 1

The Forest Weave pattern is knit in two pieces, seamed on the sides and sleeves are picked up.  No shaping!

The pattern includes cables and drop stitches so it keeps your interest.  The drop stitches are especially fun – it’s so satisfying to intentionally drop a stitch and watch it unravel!

I am going to cast on for the short sleeve version, size S/M, using Rowan Pure Linen in Black.  I love this yarn!  Is anyone else using Pure Linen?

I’m on target for gauge using size 9 needles.   Folks have asked if there is a way to ensure there enough yarn to do a long-tail cast on.  One way to do this is to cast on 10 stitches, pull out the 10 stitches, measure the length of the yarn needed for the 10 stitches then multiply this by the number of stitches needed divided by 10.

For example, if the pattern specifies to cast on 40 stitches and it takes 8 inches of yarn to cast on 10 stitches, multiply 8 inches by 4 to get a 32 inch tail.

I can’t wait to get started on this!  Be sure to check in with our Ravelry group to post your progress, ask questions and see what everyone else is up to.  See you all next week for our second update!
