Friday Pattern Friday: Tangier Cowl

March 28, 2014

To welcome Cascade’s new self-striping yarn Tangier to our web store, we couldn’t help but feature this free cowl pattern on this week’s Free Pattern Friday.

Since Tangier blends lightweight silk with cotton and rayon, it is the perfect go-to yarn for your Spring and Summer accessories.  This subtly striping cowl will double as a capelet during chilly evenings out.

Happy knitting!

Free Pattern Friday: Pure Worsted Home Decor

March 07, 2014

It seems we are always knitting for our loved ones.  We feel the urge to adorn newborns with handknit caps, dress our friends in cozy scarves and occasionally treat ourselves to a new cardigan or pullover.  On this “Free Pattern Friday”, we thought it would be fun to feature some ideas for a part of our lives often forgotten: our homes!

(Created for the 2006 London Architecture Biennale)

There are so many unexpected ways to add a knitted touch to your home (aside from your everyday afghan).  You can make some felted bowls using a bulky weight wool like Lamb’s Pride Bulky to store loose change and keys in your entryway.  You can practice your crochet skills by whipping up simple cotton coasters.  You could even create an heirloom table runner using any of our fantastic linen yarns.

If you’re not sure where to begin, why not check out Rowan’s latest online home decor collection?  This free download includes almost a dozen inspiring patterns using their new machine washable yarn Pure Wool Worsted. We love these cheerful knit pillow covers!

What will you knit to dress up your living quarters this season?  Share it with us on Facebook or Ravelry – we’d love to see what you come up with.
