Last weekend, we hosted a special yarn tasting workshop at the shop. Marge from the Fibre Company was here with goodie bags in hand to guide us through a swatch of 11 different Fibre Company yarns.
Starting with the heaviest yarns and working our way to the lighter yarns (which we joked was the opposite from wine tasting!), we came armed with needles from size 9 to size 3. Marge told us all about the properties of the yarns we were tasting and showed us what we could make with them.
We were able to view the entire selection of colors, too! It was so inspiring to be able to pair colors right then and there.
After a couple hours, the participants had a pretty decent swatch on the needles. Every yarn was tastier than the next. The fan favorites seemed to be Road to China (a worsted weight cashmere blend) and Acadia (a sportweight tweed).
Kim was kind enough to send over a photo of her finished swatch. Marge was adamant about blocking your swatch before measuring it. What a difference it makes!
Thanks to all who joined us for the event. Stay tuned for the next one!
It’s not too late to meet Rowan legend Sarah Hatton! Come by to see her pop up trunk show which will be here only through Tuesday evening.
She will also be in the shop from 3-4 P.M. on 7/22 for a meet-and-greet and book signing. Sarah is teaching a special workshop that evening from 4-10 P.M. on seaming. Learn professional finishing techniques from a master designer and never again be afraid of a seamed sweater pattern. Since Sarah is rarely in the States, it will be a one in a lifetime opportunity to greatly expand your knitting knowledge!
There is still space available if you would like to enroll. Check out the class schedule and give us a ring at (415) 621-6642.
Talented designer Janet Brani of One Loop Shy will be featured at the shop this month. Her patterns are perfect for summer!
This trunk show features crochet designs from baby hats, shawls, blankets, beach bags and more. According to Janet, crocheting keeps her just “one loop shy” of crazy. Don’t yet know how to crochet? You can always sign up for our Crochet 101 class which starts on July 22.
Stop by the shop to see them in person! Our One Loop Shy trunk show will run until July 27th.
Last week we had the pleasure of hosting Stephen West and Steven Berg here at the shop! It was an absolute blast.
On Tuesday, Stephen West taught a workshop on shawl-making. Here he is decked out in a few of his fabulous creations! Thank goodness he is a math whiz – it’s amazing how many advanced calculations go in to his design work.
On Monday, Stephen and Steven brought dozens of samples and suitcases full of gorgeous yarns to the shop for their Trunk Show Extravaganza.
We had tons of fun playing dress up with all the beautiful samples! Jules grabbed the Dotted Rays shawl and Anja enjoyed StevenBe’s colorful Ponchini. The staff definitely picked out their next project(s)…
Of course, the participants didn’t hesitate to get involved either! It was so much fun to watch them try on different accessories. It was love at first sight with Lisa (right) and this bamboo blend Ponchini!
The guys were always on hand to help style the accessories and advise on yarn choice. On the left, StevenBe is demoing one of his multi-use pieces and on the right, Stephen West shows off his new shawl Welty.
Audrey certainly didn’t leave empty handed that evening! She stocked up on a few summer projects. We can’t wait to see how they turn out.
Look at all those yummy, yummy yarns! We still have a few skeins left that were dyed exclusively for the tour. Drop by the shop to check them out!
“Never match. Just complement!”
Until next time!
In honor of the first annual Fiberlicious Tour, Stephen West and Steven Berg have been collaborating with dyers across the country to create some exclusive commemorative colorways.
Stock is extremely limited and will be available for presale this weekend (June 28 and 29). Get a preview and do your shopping before the Westknits workshop on July 1! Want a little sneak peek?
As you probably know, we love Madelinetosh. Joining our vast collection of Tosh colors is the commemorative colorway “Knitting is Dead Sexy”. StevenBe describes the color as “intense, colorful and vibrant – not for the faint of heart”. We will be receiving a limited number of skeins in Vintage, Tosh Merino Light and Sock.
Brand new to ImagiKnit is Wild Hare Fiber Studio yarns, arriving in 5 special colorways. Pinnacle is a merino wool sock yarn with nylon for durability. We are counting down the minutes until we can see these fabulous Zebra colorways in person!
Inspired by Stephen West’s home in Amsterdam, The Red Light District collection (by Three Irish Girls) blends coral and orchid with smokey gray for a naughty edge. The Sin City collection seeks its inspiration from the opulence and lavishness of Las Vegas. Purple, copper and olive blend together in a seductive combo.
Alchemy has developed two colorways just for the tour. Evocative is a bright blend of orange, pink and red. Ambrosial is a cooler combination of green, blue and purple. We have ordered both colors in the bases Silken Straw and Haiku. Silken Straw is a 100% silk tape yarn that softens as you work with it. Haiku is a luscious silk and mohair blend. Ideally you combine both yarns to make a heavenly fabric.
On Monday, the boys will show you what you can create with these luxury yarns. There is still room in our Trunk Show Extravaganza and Westknits workshop, so give us a call to register!
